Steam is a heat transfer medium with one of the highest heat capacities, so even small losses and leaks can result in significant amounts of annual losses, as each kilogram of leaked-out steam means a huge amount of lost heat. This also applies to condensate, which is chemically treated water with high heat capacity. A plant may be equipped with state-of-the-art steam boilers with some tremendous values in their “Efficiency” field, but the overall energy efficiency of a steam and condensate system may be low due to losses on the consumer side. Although, in addition to inefficiencies in the operation of a steam and condensate system, there may be other factors affecting safety performance of the production process. The design and installation errors can lead to permanent hydraulic shock, noise, vibration, steam and condensate leakage.
